In 2017, as part of the celebration marking 700 years since the founding of the city of Lublin, “Grodzka Gate - NN Theatre” Centre will host the Lubliner Reunion - a unique meeting of the city’s former Jewish inhabitants and their descendants. ​ROOTKA is an official partner of the event. More details can be found on the project’s website

 

We invite you to join us on the new city tours specially prepared for the participants of the Lubliner Reunion. We offer different optional walking tours each dedicated to important and historical sites in Lublin, including the synagogues, Majdnanek State Musuem and Jewish Cemeteries.

All tours will be guided in English by our expert guides.


Thanks to the support of the Grodzka Gate NN Theatre Centre all city tours will be for free. We ask to fill up a form that will help us get to know you and tell us in which tours you will be interested in.

Highlights of Lublin

Walking tour

Duration: 2 hours

Date: July 3 (Monday), July 4 (Tuesday), July 6 (Thursday)

Meeting point: 10.00 a.m. , Castle Square near the stairs leading to the castle

Descritpion: Visit the Old Town of Lublin, feel its vibe and learn about the history of the city through its most important monuments and sites.

Trail: Royal Court, The Old Town, Krakowska Gate, Krakowskie Przedmieście, and Litewski Square.

Jewish District and the area of the ghetto

Walking tour

Duration: 2 hours

Date: 12.00 p.m. on July 3, July 4, July 6, July 7

Meeting point: Castle Square near the stairs leading to the castle

Description: Have a walk around the non-existent city and follow the traces of memory of some of the surviving material heritage, in the city which was once known as Jerusalem of the Polish Kingdom..

Trail: The Old Town, former Jewish district and the area of the ghetto around the Royal Castle

State Museum at Majdanek

Walking tour. Geting to/from Majdanek by bus provided by organizers.

Duration: 3 hours

Date: 2.00 p.m. on July 4, July 5, July 6

Meeting point: Castle Square near the stairs leading to the castle

Description: Walk the path of memory through the second biggest Nazi camp in Europe and commemorate victims of the 20th c. terror.

Trail: the area of the former camp, prisoners’ barracks and gas chambers bunker, the exhibition "The Prisoners of Majdanek", the crematorium building and the Monument for Struggle and Martyrdom.

Royal Castle with Donjon and Holy Trinity Chapel

Walking tour

Duration: 2 hours

Meeting point: Castle Square near the stairs leading to the castle

Description: Visit Lublin’s most representative building and experience the richness of the city’s history in its oldest monuments - the 13th c. Donjon and the 14th/15th c. Chapel including its overwhelming paintings.

Open-Air Village Museum in Lublin

Walking tour. Geting to/from Museum by bus provided by organizers.

Duration: 3 hours

Meeting point: Castle Square near the stairs leading to the castle

Description: Learn about the traditional life of Lublin Region’s villages and experience its cultural diversity through its rich architecture and exhibits collected by one of the biggest open-air museums in Poland.

Trail: The open-air exhibitions reflecting the landscape and ethnographic diversity of Lublin Region: the Lublin Upland, Roztocze, Vistula Region, Podlasie and Bug Region, and provincial towns.

The Old and The New Jewish Cemetery

Walking tour

Duration: 2 hours

Meeting point: Castle Square near the stairs leading to the castle

Description: The Old Jewish Cemetery. Known to be established as early as in 15th c., it is the oldest Jewish cemetery in Poland. Destructed during WWII and neglected in post-war period, it still holds some precious tombstones with the matzevah of Seer of Lublin among them.

The New Jewish Cemetery .Opened in the first half of the 19th c., it is the only still functioning Jewish cemetery in Lublin. Along with its monuments and chamber of memory, it also serves as a memorial site.

Memory trail - the route to Umschlagplatz, 2,5 hours

A two kilometer walk. Organizers will provie a bus for people with walking difficulties.

Duration: 2 hours

Date: 10.00 a.m. on July 5

Meeting point: Castle Square near the stairs leading to the castle

Description: Follow the last path of Lublin Jews, hear memories from the dark times and pay honour to the victims of the Holocaust in Lublin.

The "Grodzka Gate – NN Theatre" Center (2 hours)

Duration: 1 hours

Date: 10.00 a.m.  and 2 p.m. on July 5 (Monday), 2.00 p.m. on July 4 (Tuesday), 12.00 p.m. on July 5 (Wednesday)

Meeting point: Grodzka Gate

Description: The center is a local government cultural institution which research and collects data about the Jewish city of Lublin. In its activities, the Centre draws on the symbolic and historical significance of its residence, the Grodzka Gate, also known as the Jewish Gate.
